4 Day cricket returns to SuperSport Park with the Momentum Multiply Titans taking on the DafaBet Warriors from Thursday, 14 December.
Three games into the competition the Sky Blues lay fourth on the table with 1 win, 1 loss and 1 draw; their next opponents are top of the pile with 2 wins from 3 matches.
“As we all know, 4 day cricket is a marathon. The blessing with this format is that you get time to come back, whether in a specific match or in the competition.” Head Coach Mandla Mashimbyi said.
Mashimbyi and his coaching staff will have a clear understanding of where the team are and what they need to work on before their match against the Warriors; and the 2 week break from their last game would’ve provided an opportunity for the Titans to fine tune their skills.
“We did a lot of good stuff, we also did a lot of stuff that were not part of our blueprint and we learnt from that and made sure that come our next game we will be ready.” Mashimbyi explained.
Playing at home at SuperSport Park will provide an advantage to the Sky Blues when they come up against the table toppers.
Junior Dala shed some light on what the teams’ plans are against the side from Gqeberha. “It’s important for us to focus on our game. We know they are playing an aggressive brand of cricket, but it won’t concern us too much if we execute what we know we need to execute.”
The Sky Blues will be eager for victory following their last result in the 4 Day Series and will look to pick up momentum before the close of the year.
“We’re looking to bounce back from what was a bit of a disappointing result. We’re going to take it day by day and use SuperSport Park as the fortress we’ve been trying to make it the whole season.’ Said Dala.
Gerald Coetzee’s availability for the match against the Warriors will bring a new energy into the Titans dressing room, more so following his good run within the Proteas over the past couple of months.
The Titans will also welcome the return of captain Neil Brand who was on national duty and led SA ‘A’ to a 2-1 series win against West Indies ‘A’.
The left-hand bat will be keen to replicate his form where he followed up a 104 in the first match with 62 in the third unofficial Test, along with some handy performances with the ball.
