FROM HAMMANSKRAAL TO THE BIG STAGE: AMOGELANG MAPHANGULA’S RISE TO THE TOP

August,21

As August unfolds for Women’s Month, Titans Cricket continues to celebrate and honour the remarkable women of the Fidelity Titans. In a sporting landscape that has historically been male-dominated, we proudly shine a spotlight on our Daisy Ladies, commending their ambition, drive, and deep passion for the game.

Our latest feature highlights 22-year-old top-order batter Amogelang Maphangula. Born on November 8, 2003, Maphangula discovered her passion for cricket at an early age.

“It all started at Makgake Primary School in Hammanskraal. Back then, I wanted to be an all-rounder, so I gave everything a try; and I absolutely loved it,” Maphangula recalls when reflecting on her grassroots beginnings.

Her commitment paid off early. Maphangula joined the Titans set-up in 2016 and has since proudly worn the Daisy Ladies colors across both the Pro20 and Pro50 formats, while also representing the Fidelity Titans on the international stage during the 2024 Global Cricket Tournament (GCT).

Growing up, the turning point that inspired Maphangula to pursue cricket seriously came from her mother’s friend, Sylvia Chauke. Seeing Maphangula’s natural talent, Chauke encouraged her to stay dedicated to the game and lean into her potential, recognising that cricket could pave the way to a rewarding career.

When it comes to inspiration on the field, Maphangula looks up to her Fidelity Titans teammate and Proteas star, Laura Wolvaardt, a role model who motivates her to Rise, Rule, and Reign every single day.

Having spent nearly a decade within the Titans family, Maphangula has built a trove of unforgettable moments. When asked about her favourite off-pitch memory with the team, she points to a special highlight: “The 2024 team building trip to Sun City.”

To the young girls watching her play from the stadium stands or on their screens at home, Maphangula offers a simple yet powerful piece of advice:

“Believe that you can do it, and never speak negatively about yourself.”
