This Women’s Month, Titans Cricket continues to celebrate and honour the remarkable women of the Fidelity Titans. In this feature, we spotlight Katherine Prior, a 24-year-old batting all-rounder born and raised in Mpumalanga.
Born on December 17, Prior grew up in the small town of White River, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Lowveld.
“I was very lucky to grow up in such a special environment, with plenty of space to be outside and enjoy sports,” Prior reflects.
Her cricket journey began right at home.
“Some of my earliest cricket memories are playing in the backyard with my brother. We would spend hours batting, bowling, and competing against each other, and I think that’s where my love for the game really started,” she explains.
What started as pure fun turned out to be the foundation of a promising career. Her brother sparked her passion for the sport, while her family provided constant support and encouragement to pursue it seriously.
When asked about her inspirations along the way, Prior highlights a legendary figure in South African cricket: “Mignon du Preez played a massive role in opening my eyes to women’s cricket and showing me what was possible. I’ll always be grateful to her for that.”
In line with the spirit of Women’s Month, we also honour the influential women standing behind our Fidelity Titans stars. For Prior, the women in her life offer continuous inspiration, especially her mother.
“She has always been my biggest supporter and has taught me to be strong, grounded, and to believe in myself. I’m incredibly lucky to have so many amazing women around me who inspire me every day, as well as the many women I have met and learned from throughout my journey.”
On the pitch, the Mpumalanga native has developed into a formidable force. Her transformation from a bowling all-rounder into a top-order batter came full circle during the 2023/24 season, where she scored 305 runs for the Fidelity Titans in the one-day competition, second only to Robyn Searle, at an outstanding average of 61.00, including three half-centuries. She was equally aggressive in the T20 format, striking at 106.66.
Beyond wearing the blue of the Titans, Prior took her skills to the international stage when she captained the Fidelity Titans side during the Sano City Women’s Japan Premier League in May 2026.
“Exploring Japan with my Fidelity Titans teammates is definitely my favourite memory so far!” she shares.
Guided by her daily mantra, “Growth happens when you choose growth over comfort”, Prior offers inspiring advice to aspiring young female cricketers:
“Always keep enjoying it and never forget why you started playing in the first place. Believe in yourself, dream big, and most importantly, enjoy the process. There will be ups and downs, but never lose the joy that made you fall in love with the game.”
