Titans Cricket Union hosted its Special General Meeting (SGM) on Thursday, 28 May 2026, at SuperSport Park, bringing together stakeholders for an important day in the Union’s history.
The meeting focused on the voting process regarding the implementation of a Lead Independent Board, a significant step in the continued governance and strategic direction of the Union.
Following the conclusion of the SGM, attendees gathered for an evening of celebration and reflection, hosted at SuperSport Park. Titans Cricket CEO, Dr Jacques Faul, welcomed guests and reflected on the significance of 2026, a milestone year as SuperSport Park celebrates its 40th anniversary.
Dr Faul highlighted the rich history of the iconic venue and acknowledged the many individuals who have played a vital role in supporting Titans Cricket Union over the years. As part of the evening’s celebrations, several “Friends of Titans” were recognised for their outstanding contribution and unwavering support of the Union.
Among those acknowledged were Peter Sutton, Ward Councillor; Shandin Govender and Kuben Pillay, Magic Pan caterers, Captain Sarel Strydom, a retired member of the South African Police Service who has served as the Joint Operations Committee (JOC) Commander at SuperSport Park for many years, Richard Green, whom Dr Faul affectionately referred to as “Titan like I am Titan” and Gail Jordaan, in recognition of the support she and her husband, Alan Jordaan, have provided to Titans Cricket over many years.
The evening also provided an opportunity to bid farewell to two respected Titans players and former captains, Gandhi Jafta and Sibonelo Makhanya.
Speaking about Gandhi Jafta, Dr Faul described her as “smart, intelligent and well educated,” acknowledging her contribution both on and off the field. Sibonelo Makhanya was praised as “a true gentleman with a big smile,” reflecting the positive impact he has made throughout his time with the Titans.
Guests were also treated to an engaging panel discussion led by Dr Jacques Faul alongside Vincent Sinovich, Tebogo Siko, and Alan Jordaan. The panel reflected on the rich history of Titans Cricket, tracing its roots back to North Eastern Transvaal cricket and sharing stories that have shaped the Union into what it is today.
The evening served as a fitting celebration of the people, partnerships, and history that have contributed to the success of Titans Cricket Union, while also looking ahead to an exciting future as SuperSport Park marks 40 years as one of South Africa’s premier cricket venues.
