His partnership with Dean Elgar for the Proteas was a source of stability, and Markram's immediate impact was further emphasised when he was briefly handed the captaincy against India in the limited-overs series.
Ngidi, meanwhile, made an immediate impression with ball in hand. Having suffered a major injury the previous winter, he hit the ground running when he finally made his Test debut. Figures of six for 39, to help seal a most competitive series, showed that he was made for the big time. What made it even more special was the fact that he did it at Supersport Park Centurion, his home ground.
Ngidi has continued to strike regularly for the Proteas in all formats, and has already entrenched himself as a vital player across formats.
On the domestic scene, Dala was a thorn amongst opposition. He bowled with great pace and control, ensuring that there was no relenting in pressure for the Sky Blues.
Dala performed to the point where national selectors couldn't ignore him, and he has since gone on to make his international bow.
His assortment of slower ball variations make him a handy option in white-ball cricket for the Proteas.
