Every August, the country pauses to celebrate the women who shape South Africa, and at Titans Cricket, that celebration is not confined to a single month. It is a commitment we carry through every season, every fixture and every decision we make about the future of the game.
Women’s Month gives us a moment to reflect on that commitment publicly, but the truth is that women’s cricket sits at the very heart of who we are as an organisation, and it will continue to be a priority long after the calendar turns.
Titans Cricket is fortunate to be home to a remarkable group of women, from players who compete with skill and heart on the field, to administrators, coaches and staff who work tirelessly behind the scenes to grow the game. Their impact is felt in every corner of our organisation, and it is impossible to speak about the identity of Titans Cricket without recognising the women who have helped build it. Their stories deserve to be told, not just in August, but throughout the year, because the growth of women’s cricket depends on visibility as much as it does on opportunity.
Two of our flagship initiatives capture this commitment in a tangible way. The Elise Lombard Leadership Academy, known as ELLA, was launched in late 2023 to equip talented women in sport and entertainment with the technical skills they need to thrive beyond the field of play and beyond the big stages that first bring them into the spotlight. The Academy is named in honour of the late Elise Lombard, a former Titans Cricket CEO whose groundbreaking tenure at the helm of the organisation continues to inspire the way we think about leadership and development. ELLA carries her legacy forward by investing in the next generation of women who will shape sport and entertainment long after their playing days are behind them.
Alongside ELLA sits the Global Cricket Tournament, or GCT, which has, since its launch in 2023, remained firmly focused on growing women’s cricket on an international scale. The tournament creates a global platform for talent development and international exposure, giving players the chance to test themselves against the best in the world while opening doors that might otherwise have remained closed. It is a project born from the belief that South African talent deserves a global stage, and that the growth of the women’s game depends on the kind of exposure that only international competition can offer.
Programmes like ELLA and the GCT do not exist in isolation. They are an extension of a broader philosophy at Titans Cricket, one that recognises the women in our space, on and off the field, as central to the success and future of the game. From the players who inspire the next generation to the staff who ensure the wheels keep turning, every woman connected to Titans Cricket has played a part in the growth of women’s cricket in this country, and we remain deeply grateful for that contribution.
As we celebrate Women’s Month, Titans Cricket reaffirms what has always been true: women’s cricket will always be a priority for us. We celebrate the women in our space today, and we look forward to continuing to invest in their growth, their leadership and their futures for many Women’s Months to come.
