The Momentum Multiply Titans have done it again. In a final that had every neutral on the edge of their seat, the Titans produced a masterclass in resilience and composure to claim the 2025/26 One Day Cup title at the DP World Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, defeating the DP World Lions by three wickets. It is the franchise’s first One Day Cup victory since the 2018/19 season and the 22nd trophy in their history.
Playing at the Lions’ home ground, the Titans were put to the field first after the Lions won the toss and elected to bat. It was a decision that set the tone for what would become an absorbing contest, with both teams pushing hard for supremacy throughout. The Lions compiled a competitive total of 248, built on collective contributions across their order. The Titans’ bowling unit rose to the occasion admirably, with Lizaad Williams leading the attack with figures of 3/49, a display of controlled aggression that kept the Lions from truly cutting loose.
The chase, however, was never going to be straightforward. Needing 249 from their allotted overs against a Lions attack bowling with the confidence of a side on home soil, the Titans fought at various points and required a performance of genuine quality to drag them through. That performance came in the shape of Keegan Petersen.
Petersen, named Player of the Match, was quite simply immovable. The right-hander crafted a magnificent 90 off 133 deliveries – an innings of rare patience and skill that anchored the Titans’ chase when it threatened to unravel. He absorbed pressure, rebuilt partnerships and kept the asking rate manageable, all while making batting look deceptively effortless. It was the knock of a player who understands exactly what his team needs from him and delivers it without a worry.
When Petersen needed support, it came emphatically. Duan Jansen arrived at the crease and launched into a breathtaking counter-attacking 61 off just 61 deliveries, a role that shifted the momentum decisively in the Titans’ favour and gave the chase a new complexion entirely. Keagan Lion-Cachet also played his part with a purposeful 35 off 38 balls, adding vital contributions at key moments as the Titans pushed towards their target. Two runs from the final ball remained when the winning runs were struck, and the Titans bench erupted.
For captain Rivaldo Moonsamy, the triumph was a reflection of the character that has defined this Titans team all season long. “It’s not always about how you start, but how you finish,” Moonsamy said in the aftermath. “For us to finish this way, it’s really special.”
The victory is also deeply significant off the field. This is the debut season for head coach Rivash Gobind at the wheel of the Titans, and he has wasted absolutely no time in making his mark. Inheriting a squad with immense talent and a winning culture, Gobind has refined, motivated and united the group, and on his first attempt, he has guided them to silverware. Trophy number 22 belongs to him as much as it does to every player who took the field.
Gobind was understandably emotional when he spoke to media after the match. “This means the world to me and to every single person in this setup,” the head coach said. “The players put in an extraordinary shift all tournament long and to see them get the reward they deserve, in a final, under pressure, away from home – fills me with immense pride. The Titans is a proud franchise and to add to its legacy in my first season is something I will cherish forever. The character and belief in this group is unlike anything I have experienced, and today is for them.”
Twenty two trophies. A franchise that keeps on delivering. The Momentum Multiply Titans are One Day Cup champions once more.
