The Fidelity Titans touched down in Oudtshoorn on Friday, 6 March, travelling to the Garden Route for what promises to be a pivotal weekend against the SWD Garden Route Badgers at the Recreation Ground.
With fixtures scheduled across Saturday and Sunday, 7 and 8 March, the Sky Blues arrive in the Western Cape not only with a point to prove on the log, but with arguably their most formidable squad of the season – six Proteas among their number.
Headlining the contingent are South Africa women’s captain Laura Wolvaardt and Suné Luus, who join the Titans squad for both fixtures. Their inclusion provides an enormous boost in experience and firepower at a time when the Titans are pushing hard to secure a top two finish in the HollywoodBets Pro Series before the final, which will be hosted in Durban.
Last weekend served as a reminder of the Titans’ growing depth and potential when former Proteas opener Lizelle Lee made her debut for the franchise in sky-blue colours. The experienced batter wasted no time making her mark, recording a composed maiden half-century of 57 off 42 balls for her new side. Disappointingly, the weather had the final say, and the match ended in a no result , points the Titans can ill afford to leave behind as they sit fourth on the Pro50 log and fifth in the Pro20 standings.
Lee returns to Oudtshoorn alongside her new teammates, and the Titans will also welcome back Luyanda Nzuza to the line-up, a return that adds further pace and versatility to an already well-rounded squad. With Wolvaardt and Luus lending international class across both formats, the Titans boast a batting order and bowling attack capable of competing with any side in the country.
Despite their current mid-table positions, the Titans camp is far from discouraged. This weekend represents the team’s final outing before the Pro Series final in Durban, and there is every belief within the group that the quality assembled for this trip to Oudtshoorn can produce the results needed to cement a place in the top two and carry momentum into the showpiece event.
“This is a massive weekend for us. We have the squad, we have the talent, and we believe in our ability to get the results we need. Having Laura and Suné back with us, along with the experience of Lizelle and the energy of the rest of the group, gives us real confidence going into Oudtshoorn. Our goal is simple – win our matches, move up the log, and head into the final in Durban with the belief that we can win it all, said Pierre de Bruyn, Fidelity Titans Head Coach.
The Garden Route Badgers will be eager to play spoilers on home soil, but the Titans, armed with six of South Africa’s finest and a squad hungry for silverware, will be determined to leave the Recreation Ground with maximum points. All roads then lead to Durban, where the HollywoodBets Pro Series final awaits the country’s best.
