Another of the star products of the University of Pretoria, De Bruyn was absolutely prolific last season upon his return to the Titans after two seasons with the Knights, whom he also captained. Schooled at Menlopark, De Bruyn is a tall and powerful batsman, his signature stroke being booming drives straight down the ground.
Player of the Year was one of five trophies De Bruyn won at the Titans’ 2018/19 awards dinner, having averaged 68.16 in the four four-day games he was able to play in-between Test duties, while he also marked himself out as a future white-ball batsman for the Proteas as he averaged 51.57 in the Momentum One-Day Cup and was the joint leading run-scorer in the CSA T20 Challenge alongside Rassie van der Dussen of the Highveld Lions, with an extraordinary average (69.60) and strike-rate (161.11).
He is rated as one of the most promising batsmen in the country and, turning 27 in October, the time is right for his talents to start blossoming at international level, where he has played nine Tests for the Proteas.
With his confident personality, De Bruyn also adds to the leadership pool at the Titans.
