The first weekend of the Mzansi Super League saw some excellent performances from several Multiply Titans players.

The Tshwane Spartans, laden with Titans pros, took part in the opening match in Cape Town on Friday, 16 November, where they were defeated by the Cape Town Blitz outfit. That result did hang in the balance for a long time, though, as AB de Villiers gave a quick reminder of his exceptional skills.

The former Standard Bnak Proteas star struck a fluent 59 from just 30 balls, before his wicket sparked a change in fortunes from the home side. De Villiers was again in action on Sunday, as the Pretoria-based outfit opened their win account with a tense, one-run win over the Paarl Rocks. Theunis de Bruyn, who has enjoyed a very productive start to the season with bat in hand, continued that rich vein with an excellent 66 from just 38 balls.

That lay the platform for a mighty total of a 203 for five, with de Villiers chipping in with a quick-fire 32 from just 18 balls.

Perhaps the moment of the match was produced by Titans opener Dean Elgar, who prevented a crucial boundary at the death, using his hands,
face and body, thus ensuring that the Spartans got over the line.

The next week of the Mzansi Super League should see even more performances from Titans players, with the Proteas entering the competition after their return from Australia.

National captain Faf du Plessis, spinner Tabraiz Shamsi and Aiden Markram are heading to Paarl, Lungi Ngidi joins the Spartans, Farhaan Behardien heads to Cape Town to lead the Blitz, with Quinton de Kock also in the side, while Chris Morris will add his considerable all-round skills to the Nelson Mandela Bay Giants.

That will see the Multiply Titans very well represented across the country, as the Mzansi Super League continues to grow in stature.
