The Msanzi Super League (MSLT20) is well underway, and the Multiply Titans' standing in South African cricket has been recognised.
Out of six franchises for the inaugural tournament, the Titans provide four captains across the competition.
Titans veteran and superstar AB de Villiers leads the Tshwane Spartans into battle, and he will play for a side coached by Mark Boucher and assistant Mandla Mashimbyi. De Villiers brings a wealth of experience to his role, and has spoken of his excitement at leading his home city into a new era.
Down the coast, there is also plenty of Titans flavour in the MSLT20. T20 legend Albie Morkel has been handed the task of leading a vastly experienced Durban Heat franchise, which includes the likes of Hashim Amla and Khaya Zondo in their ranks.
"I think we’ve had a strong leadership group over the past few years and for the guys now spread around the country it’s obviously a good sign for the Titans, the bad thing is we need to give away a few secrets to our success but that’s part and parcel of the tournament," said Morkel with a wry smile.
"I’ve played all my cricket at the Titans in Pretoria and now we’ve started training in Durban, it’s a completely different culture. It’s also a learning curve for me figuring out how to gel players together quickly for a big tournament like this (MSL) but so far so good in Durban, it’s been good!"
In Paarl, Cape product Henry Davids has been tasked with leading the Paarl Rocks. Down the road from hard-hitting opener, Titans and Proteas middle-order ace Farhaan Behardien will take charge of the Cape Town Blitz this season, to complete an excellent leadership roster for the Titans.
"I was brought up here (Paarl) so It’s also exciting being in my home town and it’s a beautiful and unbelievable place to play cricket. It’s exciting times going ahead, for this brand and the Mzansi Super League," said Davids.
"Leadership means a lot for teams going forward, it brings success and it means a lot for Titans to get the accolade of leaders around the country."
Titans Cricket CEO Jacques Faul added: "We are very excited for the Mzansi Super League, and we are equally proud of all our Titans players being handed these responsibilities,"
"We wish them all the best over the next month of competition but, naturally, we would love to see AB and the Tshwane Spartans lift the cup at Centurion in a few weeks," Faul added with a smile.
