Titans ready for Jukskei Derby showdown

The Multiply Titans are ready for a cracking Wednesday derby against the bizhub Highveld Lions, in their latest Momentum One-Day Cup in Potchefstroom on Wednesday.

Both the Lions and the visiting Titans have endured a mixed bag in the competition thus far, but the men in sky blue are coming off a week of contemplation. After their loss to the Dolphins last Sunday, they have
had a break, and are now primed for a busy schedule over the next two weeks.

“I think we have been really good and our training and preparations have been very good and we have played good cricket, ” senior batsman Heino Kuhn said ahead of the drive to Potchefstroom.

“We probably should’ve won both games, but had a little glitch at the end that cost us the game against Dolphins,” he added of the defeat at Centurion.

Now, they square up to a Lions team that has been frustrated by poor weather up north over the past week. The Lions are a dangerous unit, and they also have plenty of firepower in their ranks. Kuhn expects an
explosive encounter.

“Titans vs Lions is always a very heated and intense game and, with all the Proteas back for this one in both teams, this one won’t be any different!”

There is added stardust on both sides, with the Titans welcoming back Dean Elgar and Aiden Markram into a squad that already has the likes of Chris Morris, Tabraiz Shamsi and Heinrich Klaasen in its ranks.

The Titans, then, will fancy their chances of working their way up the table, and looking to challenge for the 50-over title. There are few squads with more Proteas resources at their disposal, even in the midst of an ODI series.

“It is a very strong squad, and the Protea players coming in will definitely strengthen the squad. Together with the experience and exuberance of youth, it’s a very good team that we will put out come Wednesday,” Kuhn warned.

That being said, he is wary of what the Lions have at their disposal. Their cast list also has some serious Proteas players, and the ingredients are there for an absolute cracker of a contest.

“The Lions will also put out a good team, with the likes of Temba Bavuma,Reeza Hendricks, Dwaine Pretorious and a very inform Rassie van der Dussen. So it will be two very strong sides going into battle at Senwes Park,” he added with relish.
