With South African cricket going into a new era, it is fitting that the new narrative will be chronicled on a fresh canvas.
The Heavy Roller is a new cricket publication, and it will cover all facets of the game in the country. Edited by renowned cricket scribe Luke Alfred, The Heavy Roller also features some of the lost prominent bylines in the media landscape.
“This is a very important voice entering the cricket media space, and we look forward to some spotlight being given to players across the country,” Titans CEO Dr Jacques Faul said.
The Heavy Roller will be out every four months, and includes columns from veteran journalist Kevin McCullum, as well as the musings of international stats guru Andrew Samson.
“It’s very exciting to be at this point, where we are launching the first edition,” editor Luke Alfred enthused.
“I’m very grateful to my fellow cricket scribes who have put their hands up, and contributed to this first edition. I think we’ve managed to rustle up a very good first batch, and the onus is now on us to continue in a similar vein.”
The first edition sees Anrich Nortje open the feature story bowling, as he chats to Colin Bryden about life in the express lane.
There are also features on the returning Kolpak players and spin bowling.
“These are all topics that we are already engaging on as fans of the game. Cricket has definitely been under-represented when it comes to regular magazines in recent years, and we hope that The Heavy Roller will be around for a long time, and help us to know more about our favourite cricketers,” Faul added.
The Heavy Roller will be available digitally for cricket fans across the country.
