The Momentum Multiply Titans will kick off their New Year against the Warriors, as they meet in the latest round of the Four-day Franchise Series.
The Sky Blues were stung by a derby defeat to the Lions to end 2019, and will be looking to get their season back on track.
The Warriors arrive in good spirits, having overwhelmed the Dolphins in Durban. Coach Robbie Peterson’s charges were inspired by a double century from Eddie Moore, as well as a fine spell of bowling from skipper Jon-Jon Smuts.
The Titans, meanwhile, produced a limp batting display at the Bullring, and are looking for a strong response from an experienced middle-order.
Evergreen Henry Davids, Farhaan Behardien and Proteas Test squad casualty Theunis de Bruyn all have outstanding pedigree, while Tony de Zorzi and Grant Thomson also add strong run-getting quality.
After their collective efforts against the Lions, they will be determined to get a big total on the board.
Getting 20 wickets at SuperSport Park will be the challenge, especially in the wake of very dry conditions. It remains a very good batting surface, but the wear and tear on the square could play into Tabraiz Shamsi’s hands as the game wears on.
The left-arm spinner is in excellent form this season, and he will want to transfer an outstanding Mzansi Super League showing into the red-ball component.
The Titans will be pushed by the resolute Warriors, who themselves fancy a charge for the title. It promises to be an attritional battle, between two very well matched sides.
