The Jukskei Derby will be played this weekend, 14-15 October 2023, in Johannesburg at the DP World Wanderers Stadium, and the Fidelity Titans are eager to build their momentum.
The Daisy Ladies delivered a spectacular performance with the bat in Oudtshoorn, thanks to the all-rounder Eliz-Mari Marx. She hit a blazing 115 runs off 66 deliveries, with 11 fours and 6 sixes which led to a convincing season opening victory against Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers in the CSA Women’s One Day Cup.
Fidelity Titans Head Coach had this to say “I couldn’t be prouder of the way the women executed their game in the 50-over format. It was a good all-round effort, and each player gave their best on the field”.
He continues to highlight the standout moments, emphasizing the brilliant century scored by Marx, “Eliz’s century was a game changer. Her ability to control the innings and find boundaries consistently was fantastic”.
Key contributors to the match included Fidelity Titans captain Robyn Searle, who notched up 86 runs off 125 deliveries. Additionally, Paulinah Mashishi’s four-wicket haul (4/19) supported by Gandhi Jafta’s 3/28 further strengthened the ladies grip on the game.
Despite their dominant display in the One Day format, Titans faced a setback in the T20 challenge, where the Badgers managed to secure a Super-Over victory in Oudtshoorn.
“The team put up a good effort, but unfortunately, we fell just short in the Super-Over”, said Fraser. He further added “Scoring 132 all out was not our best performances with the bat. We lacked the consistency needed in T20 cricket. These situations are learning experiences, and we’ll work on improving our batting in similar scenarios.
In the Division 1 clash at the Recreation Ground, the badgers posted a total of 132/3 in their allotted 20 overs.
However, the Fidelity Titans opener Robyn Searle played a crucial role once again in levelling the game by scoring an unbeaten 66 off 57 balls, leading to a total of 132 all out.
The team hopes to keep up this level of play as they travel to the City of Gold to play the Lions in a 50-over and T20 match.
