Leg-spinner Von Berg has bounced back so brilliantly from a horrific finger injury three years ago that he was selected for his maiden Standard Bank Proteas Test tour when they travelled to Sri Lanka last year July.
The 32-year-old is the workhorse of the Titans attack, often having to bowl over-after-over to tie up one end and put aside his normal attacking instincts. He bowled more than 46 overs per game, on average, in the Sunfoil Series last season, conceding less than three runs per over.
Unusually reliable for a wrist-spinner in terms of bowling a consistent length, which has seen him also enjoy great success in limited-overs cricket.
When he plays with freedom he can be dazzling, like when he blasted the fastest century – off 73 balls – in franchise four-day history against the WSB Cape Cobras in Benoni in November 2013. He also became the first player to score a century and take 10 wickets in the match in the franchise era, against the Warriors at the same venue in January 2017.
