NORTHERNS CRICKET UNION SALUTES BRETT ON WORLD CUP SELECTION

The Northerns Cricket Union is proud of young fast bowler Merrick Brett, after he was named in the South Africa under-19 World Cup squad this week.Brett, who is a product of Midstream College has been steadily building a head of steam, having represented Northerns under-17 in 2018, before winning selection to the Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Cricket Week Northerns under-19 side for 2019.

“I am so honoured to be chosen to represent my country,” the youngster exclaimed after the squad announcement. “It is something that I have been dreaming about since I was a kid, and now that it has happened, I’m just extremely grateful.”

Brett will be tasked with making inroads with the ball for his country, as they enjoy the unique honour of playing a World  Cup on home soil.

“I’m really grateful for the opportunity, and I just want to do my best to make my family and my country proud,” he added.

Brett joins a long list of Northerns starlets who have represented their country at age-group level.

“We are very thrilled for Merrick,” Titans interim CEO Pierre Joubert said. “He is a very promising bowler in our pipe-line, and his quiet determination will definitely stand him in good stead.

“We are very excited to see him join the illustrious list of Northerns cricketers who have played in an under-19 World Cup, and we are sure that the experience will catapult his career to new heights,” Joubert added.
