Northern Champions have defended their title and been crowned champions of the 2024 CSA Cubs week.
The Champions team which comprised of 11, of 13, players from Titans Cricket were unbeaten throughout the competition, on course to lift the Cubs week trophy.
“I’m very proud of what this young side has managed to achieve in the Cubs week this year. To go the whole tournament unbeaten and bring the trophy home speaks to the excellence we always strive for.” Explained Titans Cricket CEO, Dr Jacques Faul.
“Credit must also be given to the coaching staff who worked with and mentored the players in the competition. We have a very rich pipeline which continues to produce the best cricketing talent and winning Cubs week is a marker of success for our pipeline.”
Some of the talent Faul speaks of who first raised eyebrows at Cubs weeks include, Dewald Brevis, Rivaldo Moonsamy, Modiri Litheko and Jordan Hermann and Evan Jones who cut their teeth at Titans Cricket before moving on.
A 143-run victory in the final over Southern Superstars saw the Northern Champions retain their Cubs week title in Stellenbosch on Tuesday. A Marcus Bakker 93, with support from Divan de Villiers (58*) and Juan Steyn (36*) saw the Champions finish on 307-6 after 50 overs.
With ball in hand, the tournaments leading wicket taker, Tristan Luus took 3-26, assisted by handy contributions from William Tshoke (3-26) and Marcus Bakker (2-13) which saw the Champions claim victory and the championship.
