NEW CHAPTER BEGINS FOR NEW-LOOK TITANS

The Momentum Multiply Titans are in Cape Town, primed to take on the Six Gun Grill Cape Cobras, in the first round of the CSA Four-Day Domestic Series from Monday. Like every other franchise in the country, they have been itching to get going, and that day has finally arrived.

“It is a great opportunity for the guys to write a new chapter in their story,” head coach Mandla Mashimbyi said, as the team headed for Cape Town.

The past few months have brought the team closer together than ever, and now they are very keen to start the 2020/21 campaign with their best foot forward.

“We have said that we are starting from a blank page now, and the guys are very excited about that. It is a chance to write a new story, and we have asked ourselves what kind of story do we want to read the story in a year or so,” Mashimbyi challenged.

There is a new blood in the ranks, and there are several debuts in the offing for the opening assignment. Sibonelo Makhanya, Okuhle Cele, Diego Rosier and Lizaad Williams have all settled in well at SuperSport Park, and they have been pushing for a place in the starting eleven.

The competition for places is something that Mashimbyi hopes will spur on the entire squad to new heights.

“The guys are really looking forward to it. The goal is to win all the trophies on offer. The question then is what we need to do to get there, how we look after the processes to get there.”

With the likes of Dean Elgar, Aiden Markram, Theunis de Bruyn and Heinrich Klaasen also part of the squad playing under the captaincy of Grant Thomson, the Sky Blues have plenty of experience to counter the new starters.

Last year’s Player of the Season Dayyaan Galiem will also be looking to impress again, and build on a burgeoning reputation with bat and ball.

“This is a great opportunity to make a statement and I am sure every team feels the same,” Mashimbyi warned.

“We want to tick all the boxes, but we also want to have fun out there. The Cobras have always been a tough team to beat, so this first game will be a good fight. We look forward to it massively,” he added.
