The Multiply Titans will be travelling to the Seychelles for their pre-season tour, presented by Gran Kaz Entertainment in collaboration with the Seychelles Cricket Association (SCA).
The Sky Blues will depart for the Indian Ocean island on Thursday, 23 August and will spend four days in Mahé, home to the country’s capital Victoria, before returning home on Tuesday, 28 August. The team will be based at the AVANI Seychelles Barbarons Resort and Spa for the duration of their stay.
The trip will provide the men from Centurion the perfect opportunity to put the finishing touches on their pre-season training, as they aim to build on an impressive 2017-18 season. Last season saw Mark Boucher’s side realise two trophies, winning the Ram Slam T20 Challenge for a third consecutive year, as well as the four-day Sunfoil Series.
The travelling squad will be faced with a mix of training, gym work, team building activities and some important time out in the middle when they play their only match of the tour, a Twenty20 encounter against local side, the Gran Kaz Kings.
The tour will not only serve as preparation ahead of a busy summer, which includes participating in the inaugural Abu Dhabi T20 Tournament in October, but also provide an opportunity to engage at grassroots level through a coaching clinic with over 200 children from 10 schools around Mahé.
Speaking of the tour, Titans Cricket Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Jacques Faul said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be travelling to the Seychelles, and is something the team are very much looking forward to.
“The pre-season tour has always been an essential part of the team’s preparations
heading into a new season, and we believe the facilities and opposition offered by SCA will add immense value to their preparation.
“The Seychelles is an emerging cricket nation, and to be able to be part of their development, even for a few days, is something that the franchise takes great pride in.”
It will be the Titans first tour of the island, and the Chairman of SCA, Jonathan Paul, is delighted to welcome the franchise to their shores.
“We are extremely excited and appreciative that the Multiply Titans have chosen to kick off their season with a visit to our islands. The team will be coming to the one of the most beautiful and hospitable islands in the world. It is also a great opportunity for the development of cricket in the Seychelles,” said Paul.
Itinerary
Arriving on the evening of Thursday 23 August, the Multiply Titans will be welcomed by local dignitaries of the Republic of Seychelles.
It’s an early start the following morning, as the squad make their way to the Stad Popiler for their first cricket experience on the island. The men in blue will join over 200 boys and girls and local coaches for a coaching clinic, where they will assist with core skills drills.
Following on from the clinic, the squad will embark on a picturesque Copolia hike trail, taking them away from beach views and into the rainforest through the Morne Seychellois National Park.
The evening will be spent with local dignitaries and tour partners, at Avani’s Tamarind.
After a busy first full day, Boucher’s men will enjoy some leisure time, where they will explore the idyllic island on half-day catamaran cruise, organised by Mason’s Travel. The afternoon will be spent training outdoors, as the players acclimatise to warmer conditions, after spending the bulk of the winter months training indoors.
The players will then have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the unique culture with a traditional Creole dinner organised by Gran Kaz at their newest venue in the north of Mahé – Bel Ombre.
The following morning the Titans will return to the Stad Popiler, where they will take on the Gran Kaz Kings in the shortest format, in front of local spectators.
In traditional pre-season style, the final day will be split between leisure time and a strategic planning session ahead of the new season, before the squad departs early Tuesday morning.
