Eighth Bash set to be the best

The eighth annual Titans Bash is on the horizon, and it promises to be the most competitive yet.

With all the Titans stars available, a new team sponsor and a race for places in a franchise squad that is evolving, the pre-season Bash is expected to be better than ever.

“It’s ticking a lot of boxes for us as far as competition for our senior players and senior club players in the province and also giving rookies a chance to measure themselves against Titans,” tournament director Pierre Joubert enthused.

“The best thing about it is the fact that the Titans have made themselves available and we really appreciate it.”

The Bash, which had Nashua Tshwane as associate sponsors, has also been boosted by the arrival of Debt Rescue as a team sponsor. They have joined the Titans family, and are looking forward to adding value and experiencing the unique culture that is Bash season.

“The main reason is our experience that we had with the Titans this past year. I’ve never had people make us feel so welcome and go out of their way to ensure everything works for you like Pierre, Jacques (Faul) and the guys did. So to be part of something they’re organising, which also gives opportunities to young players is something we’re privileged to be a part of,” Neil Roets, the head of Debt Rescue explained.

Roets was one of many who enjoyed the Bash Draft, and he took a full part in assembling a squad to fight for honours.

“We’re looking to see the whole team in action, and we’re just very glad that we managed to get the coach that we wanted. We missed out on one or two guys that we wanted in the team, but we’re happy with the team we put together and we really think we can take this one,” Roets added with relish.

Many a Titans player has had cut his teeth in the Bash in recent years, and the combination of experience and exuberance is what makes the Titans Bash the anticipated event that it has become.

“The fact that Mark Boucher & Mandla Mashimbyi have agreed to let the Titans play is massive for their pre-season and it’s always nicer to bat in the middle rather than to bat in nets,” Joubert said of the value to the franchise squad.

As for the event itself, Joubert wants as many fans to come and enjoy the Bash for what it is. It is a family occasion, and an opportunity to see new stats emerge alongside those who are well established.

“We actually want everyone to come out and enjoy the day and see what it’s like. We’re giving the sponsors each a suite, so they can entertain their clients and make an occasion of it. It’s cricket with a bit more fun to it,” Joubert explained.

The Bash gets underway from 17 – 20 September at SuperSport Park. Entrance is free.
