BIG NIGHT OF SUCCESS FOR SKY BLUES AT CSA AWARDS

On a night of recognition for the 2018/19 season at the Cricket South Africa Awards, there was cause for Sky Blue celebration.

National captain and Multiply Titans veteran Faf du Plessis scooped the major individual awards, as he was crowned as SA Men’s Cricketer of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year and ODI Player of the Year.

Du Plessis remains a vital presence in the national team, and his form over the past season is a reflection of his enduring quality.

There was also recognition for Titans ace Quinton de Kock, who was named as Test Player of the Year. He shone with bat and gloves, and is now firmly entrenched as one of the very best in the world.

Domestically, Junior Dala’s exceptional form during the Momentum One-Day Cup was recognised, as he secured the player of the tournament gong for his exceptional bowling spells during the Titans’ march to the 50-over title.

Governance is a fundamental part of cricket, and thus there was gloss applied to the season when Northerns Cricket Union were honoured as the Affiliate of the Season, for a record fifth consecutive time, for scoring the highest across all areas of governance and management.

“It’s been another excellent season for our structures, and we are absolutely thrilled for Faf, Quinny and Junior to be honoured in this manner,” Titans CEO Dr Jacques Faul said proudly.

“They are all fantastic ambassadors for the franchise, and they stood out with their performances.”

Faul also paid tribute to the Northerns Cricket Union for all their work.

“To do it five years in a row is a fantastic achievement. I think it’s down to a great staff, right across the whole union. From our President, our vice-president, and down to every member of staff, this is all down to them. We will celebrate this, but it’s important to also remain humble,” Faul added.

Fittingly, the event was held at the Sun Arena in Tshwane, and there were plenty of reasons for the host city to celebrate on the night.
