After two tense days England edged ahead on the third day of their hard fought tussle against Sri Lanka after three wickets apiece to Jacob Ball and Paul Best restricted Sri Lanka to 171 for 7 at Scarborough
Under bright skies in Nottingham and on a dry, low pitch, today was not a day for the fast bowlers to run rampant. Instead with plenty of turn on offer it was a day begging for the spinners to take control
Standard Bank Pro20 Series heats up
Explosive hitting from batsman, Gulam Bodi, powered the Nashua Titans to a 17-run victory (D/L Method) over the Nashua Cape Cobras in Cricket South Africa’s (CSA) premier domestic twenty over competition at Supersport Park on Sunday. Bodi shook off the cobwebs of a quiet season and majestically blasted an unbeaten 88 off 44 balls in the Titans’ total of 136/1, in the rain-affected 12-over a side encounter.
The highveld thunderstorms stopped play in the fifth over of the day, with the home-side already on the charge at 50 without loss after being sent in by the visiting captain. After the delay, Bodi, who was dropped on four, continued with the big-hitting, plastering the ball to all parts of the ground, smashing seven fours and six sixes. The Master Blaster Batsman passed his previous personal best of 70. The Cobras bowlers all felt the blows from the Titans batsmen, with Robin Petersen (1/26) getting the only wicket of Blake Snijman (27) who was trapped in front in the 8th over.
In response, the Cobras showed their intent from the onset with the destructive Herschelle Gibbs leading the early onslaught of an attempt at the mammoth total. Gibbs continued with his superb form from Friday night, bludgeoning 48 off 28 balls before he was brilliantly caught by Albie Morkel off the bowling of captain and Master Blaster Bowler, Pierre Joubert.
Sharp fielding from the home-side and regular wickets choked up the Cobras batsmen, who made a valiant attempt towards the end, with Justin Kemp’s (20*) late attack lifting the Cobras to 122/6, 17 runs shy. Albie Morkel (2/22) and Basheer Walters (2/30) chipped in with important wickets as the Titans walked to their first victory of the competition.
